That's not science, that's math. And there are mathematical axioms
that are not proven, but used as the basis for all other calculations.
That is as close as you get to "belief" in the natural world.
If you are comfortable accepting 1+1=2, then the rest of math and
science makes sense. If you are not comfortable accepting that, then
it is doubtful that anything else will make sense.
So my point is that my assumptions are stuff like 1+1=2. Your
assumptions are, shall we say, quite a bit more elaborate.
