I believe it was C.S. Lewis who had the sermon Liar, Lord or Lunatic where
he examined each possibility. I come down on the Lord side. I think a fair
evaluation of the available information will lead most reasonable people to
believe he was who he said he was. But then again, the world isn't over
populated with reasonable people, is it?

I wonder why some many people then conspired to create lies about a single
poor man?

That and why the rulers of the time sought to squash out these people when
they were found?
