Jeff-

If you want to leave shorter messages via phone that get converted to text
and sent to you in email (which I do fairly often), it's hard to beat Jott:

No training required; works pretty well. I've not tried it for longer
dictations, though.

Jeff,
Personally I think that the Dragon Dictate software is heads and shoulders
above the rest. Bear in mind though that unlike all the adverts which say
that recognition is immediately available out of the box, it really does
take time and patience before the software learns your personal intonation
and method of speaking. It is usually the colloquialisms and buzzwords that
screw up voice rec.

My current accuracy is at about 97% and started at about 85% despite the
manuals saying it should start at about 90% - don't believe them, which
considering that there is a lot of specialized vocab is quite good. Another
tip is to invest in the best and most expensive headset mike you can afford
(Plantronics) as that makes a world of difference when compared to the 3
dollar offerings in most PC stores.

I have used the IBM offering and Dragon quite a lot and they tend to
leapfrog each other every 12 months but currently I've stuck with Dragon's
latest version. Unless of course you want to spend thousands and thousands,
then there is a host of software!

Subject: [NF] Speech Recognition

I thought for sure we have batted this around but what I found in the
archives was limited. I want to take notes and save them in a document
using voice recognition. Can anyone advise me as to which package is
the best and possibly which package is the least expensive and still
works (best bang for the buck).

TIA
