My guess is that there is little virtue in doing the right thing if there is 
someone standing by waiting to smack us down if we don't.  It's like kids only 
behaving when the parent is watching.  Although, he is still watching... some 
just don't think he is.  We can all be glad that we are told he is "slow to 
anger".  But this is why he puts up with all our nonsense.
