A belief is just a thought that is thought over and over again.  

There are many ways to look at facts and in this case, Ed, you seem to
be looking for historical facts where there are few, if any around.  The
Christian church has controlled (which is what religions do - control
you) the facts for over the 2,000+ years. If folks get something from
the bible or some other document or teaching then they should have the
free will to follow their path.
