        Better and faster than what?

        .Net is much better than the previous Windows development tools that  
preceeded it, but it isn't all that different than many of the other  
development systems out there. They took Java and the library design  
of Java as their starting point, and developed a very similar  
framework; they were smart enough to avoid some of the bad decisions  
made in Java (although not all!).

        The current state-of-the-art for development in Java probably  
surpasses that of .Net, given Java's head start. So if you're looking  
for an rich, IDE-based development environment, you've got your pick.
