I don't detest anybody personally for their views, actually, and very often
get along quite well with folks whose views are diametrically opposed to
mine on the "intellectual battlefield"; but I do oppose the things they
(think they) stand for because I believe they do injustice to everything
noble, good and true.

People are often compelled to believe and vote a certain way by enslavement
to spirits of resentment, unforgiveness and various vices, which they have
acquired along life's way and which they mistake for "who they are."
Identity politics is bad, bad, bad, whether from the ostensible Left or
Right--it's all about spiritual slavery, and is used by demagogues on both
sides to orchestrate rousing rallies and demonstrations to scare people into
voting for all kinds of dangerous things they'd never, in their right mind,
vote for in a moment of dispassionate inquiry.

The rise of socialism in the 19th, 20th and now 21st centuries is a case
study in manipulation of identity politics--pitting so called "classes"
against each other, and creating an ever-more-widely swinging pendulum of
radical shifts from left to right and left again until liberty is lost
completely across the board. The wreckage that remains is usually
unrecognizable as a civilized society when it has run its cycle.
