Yes, I remember the TMI incident, and enjoyed reading about it via your
link. The TMI accident was not very serious, as it did not result in
any deaths, and there was only minimal meltdown/leak. The structure
basically held containing almost all the radio active materials. Still,
it just goes to show how accidents will alway happen, sooner or later.
If the USA started building nuclear power plants again, not having a
nuclear power plant accident would be like writing 100,000 lines of code
and testing it finding narry a bug. Accidents will always happen with
the chain of evens compounding the error each step of the way.

In the "Aftermath":

The TMI cleanup started in August 1979 and officially ended in December
1993, having cost around US$975 million. From 1985 to 1990 almost 100
tons of radioactive fuel were removed from the site. However, the
contaminated cooling water that leaked into the containment building had
seeped into the building's concrete, leaving the radioactive residue
impossible to remove. TMI-2 had been online only three months, but now
had a ruined reactor vessel and a containment building that was unsafe
to walk in --- it has since been permanently closed.

#-------------------------------

To me nuclear power plants present to many problems and dangers. The
raw materials need to produce the fuel is not that abundant or evenly
distributed around the world, and the USA would likely be dependent on
other countries for the raw materials. This is yet another reason for
the USA to avoid nuclear energy.
