Honestly, Michael, my first divorce cost $20K and took from April 1983 to August 1984 to complete. My brother Harlow has spent $12K so far on a child custody case with an ex-girlfriend. Your fees are right in the ballpark.
Attorneys always seem to low-ball their estimates to get you started. Then once they get going it is too expensive to switch so we don't. It is always the fault of the other side for running up the fees. That's just how legal actions work.
