Strickland also notes Obama's seeming reversal on FISA: In December of last
year, Obama's office said in a written statement, "Senator Obama
unequivocally opposes giving retroactive immunity to telecommunications
companies... granting such immunity undermines the constitutional
protections Americans trust the Congress to protect. Senator Obama supports
a filibuster [blocking] of this bill, and strongly urges others to do the
same."

But last month when Democratic leaders cut a deal with the Bush
Administration on wiretapping -- a deal that places tighter restrictions on
terrorist surveillance but still granted telecoms immunity -- Obama dropped
his defiant stance. While still acknowledging the Bush Administration, "has
abused that authority and undermined the Constitution," he said he'd support
the bill.

He actually voted against it before he voted for it!

It must suck to have to embrace all the opposite positions you stand for
just to get elected. This seems to be a particularly difficult problems for
liberals, whose "move to the center" looks more like pole vault than a
side-step.

Fortunately for them this year, Obama has no problem reversing his
reversible reversals to buy votes in a general election!
