Actually there is a term for it in real estate, but I'd have to look it up
as I can't remember it..
Bottom line, he was trespassing when he hired somebody to cut your tree's,
and you need to get them involved too as they should have verified that he
owned the property.

Nothing I hate worse then a thief and when somebody takes something that is
not theirs, they are a thief, period..

That's the part I'm seeing here....those trees added value to that property,
for sure.  That's documented (that trees add value to property), iirc.
