Speak to the guy first to avoid spending thousands with the lawyer. Who knows, despite his appearance to you, he might see your POV. If you settle with him for $5000 then it's $5000 in your bank account. If you get a lawyer who gets the cost to be $10000 but you spend $6000 in lawyer fees, it's not worth it. I realized the other day that the equity I got from the house was $9250, and the f*cking legal fees of this divorce have already gone way past that.
