An all purpose pure electric car could be decades in the coming. The
problem seem to be battery limitations that only provide driving ranges
of between 100 to 200 miles before the car must pulled over for 3, 4, or
5 hours to recharge its batteries.

Volkswagen's top researcher warned Saturday, July 19 that pure
electric cars would not became a major product for decades,
because they continue to be thwarted by battery technology.
Juergen Leohold, chief research officer at Volkswagen Group, said the
key problems were gaining adequate range, the huge cost and a lack of
industrial capacity to make high-energy batteries.
