God know everything included the real meaning of his word, which God
gave to the world. Since God knows everything, including the true
meaning of his own word, God does not need religion.  We as humans;
however, are imperfect and we have create religion in an attempt to
understand God, but in interpreting God's word, we have often defined
God in terms of our own needs, desires, agendas, purposes by
intentionally distorting God's word through false interpretation, thus
creating a God in our imagine, rather than a God based on God's word.
This has lead to the formation of many major religions, which include
many denominations within each major religion.

Our inability to form a consensus that conforms to the true God, based
on his word, and our inability to define what God truly wants of us
according to his word, has caused contention between religions that
compete for power, trade, money and membership. The predictable result
is passive and active aggression against any member of a competing
religion/denomination or even holy wars that have lead to the death of
too many people.

I understand that God's word makes many references to judgment, but we
have often unnecessarily imposed our own imperfect judgment in place of
leaving the judging to God, (eg God's judgment - possessive ). The
Inquisition's solution to the dilemma was to torture the victim until he
confessed the crime to which he was accused, have the victim repent of
his sins and ask God's forgiveness, and execute the victim by hanging,
disembowelment, burning at the stake, shooting, beheading, or whatever,
thus sending the soul to God as a saved sinner entitled to a glorious
everlasting life.
