>I remember in the 1970's "energy crisis" where my social studies teacher said >it takes >like 6 months for the oil get to the states from the middle east. Yet, >the local gas station increases there prices right away based on the >current price of a barrel of oil.
First... I never took anything a social studies teacher said too seriously. Second, the time frame may be shorter but it is irrelevant. Third, and I'm not saying this is the way it should be, but when prices start rising, they go up immediately at the pump because, even though the owner may have paid a lower price for his current stock, he has to replace it at a higher price and that is what we are paying for. Besides, the guys running the stations are working on very thin margins and are not the ones making the big bucks, which is why, for the most part, real service stations have gone away, replaced by mini-marts where if you want to pay cash you have to wait in line with yoyos getting cancer sticks, lottery tickets and a six pack. That's why I pay with a card at the pump. There was a comment that crude prices dropped 20%, but the price at the pump only dropped 10%. True, but that's for the cheap stuff. If you get the good stuff, it has not dropped nearly as much. I guess they are counting on a semi-inelastic demand... but if you shop around you can still minimize the damage to your wallet. -- Larry Miller --- StripMime Report -- processed MIME parts --- multipart/mixed text/plain (text body -- kept) message/rfc822 --- _______________________________________________ Post Messages to: [email protected] Subscription Maintenance: http://leafe.com/mailman/listinfo/profox OT-free version of this list: http://leafe.com/mailman/listinfo/profoxtech Searchable Archive: http://leafe.com/archives/search/profox This message: http://leafe.com/archives/byMID/profox/[EMAIL PROTECTED] ** All postings, unless explicitly stated otherwise, are the opinions of the author, and do not constitute legal or medical advice.
