What in the world makes you think it is only oil prices? Grocery stores do 
it the same way minute by minute. Computerized inventory makes this easy. 
You get the current price at the checkout counter after the item is scanned 
in. It is common practice; you shouldn't be surprised. If prices were 
totally consistent, you can assume there is a monopoly going on. Since the 
vary drastically, market forces are at work.
