And why identi.ca was able to create the Open Source version. Laconica
is only 14kloc worth of PHP, the jquery JavaScript library, a bit of
SQL and a few graphics. Neat.

But the problems with Twitter aren't some evil proprietary licensing
issues or something; it's just scaling the hardware to handle the
load. "Just."
