Everybody wants to elect a good president, although different people 
define it different ways.

The problem, of course, is that one has to be a good candidate to be 
elected, and the process seems to make campaigning have less and less 
to do with governing. Come January 20, all but the most partisan of 
us will hope that whoever takes office will be a good president. No 
matter how good a candidate's intentions are, he (or eventually she) 
will have to deal with unanticipated events.
