So, did you have an issue with Ray Naggin not putting people on buses and
getting them out of town? I did. If you don't use the buses because they
aren't air conditioned, and people die, you are an idiot and shouldn't be
the mayor. How about all the politicians, mostly democrat, stealing the
money that has been allocated to fix the levies? And finally, the people
themselves. . . why is it we have to bail them out, but in Mississippi, they
did for themselves? New Orleans citizens, particularly the poor, have been
trained to rely on the government for substandard services, while most every
place else in the US, people do for themselves.

Nobody wants to spread the joy on this, just accuse Bush, and I'm sure he
should get some credit for the fubar, but there's enough to spread around.

It appears Katrina has caused the US government, and states, to get ready
for future disasters. We've had three trainloads of evacuees brought in to
Memphis in the last few days and dispersed to aid centers. My wife and I are
working tonight from midnight til 3 at our church in the aid center. There
will probably be several hundred people from LA there.

Subject: RE: [OT] Obama's Hurricane Response Mirrors Bush in 2005

Bob,

Most of us didn't have a problem with Bush staying out of the immediate area
in the absolute beginning of the Katrina crisis. What we had a problem with
was that he did not follow the crisis even in the news, and that his aids
had to make a DVD for him to watch so he could be convinced to act.

Staying away or going in those first 24-36 hours was never the issue.

If you recall, Obama was sandbagging during the midwest floods for 4 hours,
and put his back into the crisis. McCain is 72 and partially disabled, so
nobody expects him to be filling and placing sandbags. But there wasn't a
lot of press about what Obama did then -- and that was deliberate.
