That's exactly it--most are paranoid that you're not working like you
would be in the office.

I had worked at this place in PA for 3 years and absolutely KICKED ASS
in developing a killer app and really doing wonders for that place.
There was never any doubts as to whether or not I could deliver and go
above/beyond to make the app the best it could be--well above the
minimum requirements.  I had a knack for making great UIs and everyone
loved it.  It was so good in fact that they were considering marketing
the app externally.

Yet when I asked my boss if I could tele-commute, one of the first
things out of his mouth was "well, how do we know if you'd be working?"
  I was floored.  I think it was at that point that I made my mind up to
leave and find a different employer.
