One of the pros of being a fixed-price developer for much of my work is no-one cares about the hours you put in - just the result. Years ago I went to a govt dept on a short term contract, cubicle and all. They needed a VFP job done but they didnt have the hardware to develop it on (4mb 486 machines! Mind you the secretary and the manager all had powerful machines for running word etc!) so they told me to do it at home. They gave me 3 weeks to do this job which I completed in 3 days. I didn't work 16hours days just normal 9-5 but with a contractor mentality and not a public servant mentality (ie I actually worked). It told me why tele-commuting wouldn't work for most long-term cubicle dwellers. As a rule, 'work' is that thing u do for 2 hours a day between all the other things.
Again Dilbert says it perfectly when he asks the question "when I work from home, do I owe my boss the 8 hours I spend in my cubicle or the one hour in which I actually work?" Dilbert says it all. -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of MB Software Solutions, LLC Sent: Friday, 21 November 2008 12:08 PM To: ProFox Email List Subject: Re: [NF] Lean or Agile which do you prefer? The last of in-fighting, politics, being forced to do things that you know won't work, and the lack of job security are real drawbacks. I agree with your comment about it being worth thousands of dollars. I was willing to take a $15k PAY CUT just to telecommute from home so that I could drop my kids off and pick them up from school and not have to drive 50 minutes each way....but like I said....they wanted to see me in that cube.
