Gotta love Australia. 3 hours in an emergency room would cost you $150 in a private hospital and $0 in a public one (except the wait would be longer). I had a burst appendix and was treated first class and 3 days in hospital. Bill $400 hospital (you only pay this once a year no matter how many times you go in) and about $450 in out of pocket expenses. And before I hear the lame 'quality of service' argument, australias hospitals are world class. If you want cranio-facial surgery and want the best in the world you travel down to my home city (Adelaide).
I heard Americas medical system was absurdly expensive but that I astonishing. A friend of mind was in hospital in intensive care for 3 months. What would that have costover there?
