You probably won't believe this, but "those brave young (Canadian) men", as
you call them, actually treated all "enemy combatants" fairly and gave them
their rights. They certainly didn't torture them. The prisoners were treated
humanely and all their rights were respected.

That was the case until the prisoners were handed over to the Americans.

You're absolutely right - "thank God for the brave Canadians". They went to
help the Americans fight a "war" that was not of Canada's doing. The U.S.
should be thankful for the support of Canada and the Canadian soldiers.
