I seem to think this is from a Linux fan. For us normal's... I was disappointed by M$ removing certain parts like IRC from Exchange on my win2k3 server. And making it harder to get lists and stuff working for anything other than Domain users. But being that I develop in VFP, the reason I'm on this group anyway, I need a windows server to run my web services. So I downed the Linux server and replaced it with 2k3. When VFP and .net run on Linux, and Linux looks like a friendly operating system I may change. And it also needs the programs to look right to not just dos windows. Like I change IE and Firefox when it suits me. But I cant see a point to recommending Linux on a VFP list for other than a web and mail/list server. It does that well but it wont run VFP. (legally). I have just brought an eBay copy of vista ultimate to look at. I have to because I need to check things work right. I didn't like it from the start but I didn't like XP either then so have an open mind this time. It was XP's handling of dual monitors that moved me to that in the first place but my main fear with new windows is that it gets slower. I must try win95/98 again sometime to see what that's like for speed. I do agree with dos 4 comments. But I don't even remember a dos 5. I don't think there was a general release if it existed. And I think M$ should repay all those poor people who go stuffed with ME. That was a disaster. Allen

A bit of recent history was lost in the dust of time, almost. Her is how I recall it: 1) DOS 2.1 was not bad, pretty good in fact. My first OS, 1984. _______________________________________________ Post Messages to: [email protected] Subscription Maintenance: http://leafe.com/mailman/listinfo/profox OT-free version of this list: http://leafe.com/mailman/listinfo/profoxtech Searchable Archive: http://leafe.com/archives/search/profox This message: http://leafe.com/archives/byMID/profox/[email protected] ** All postings, unless explicitly stated otherwise, are the opinions of the author, and do not constitute legal or medical advice.
