It looked like the companies originally expected to continue doing business as usual until Congress said they wanted more. All those years of fighting higher CAFE standards instead of producing more fuel-efficient cars caught up to them when gas went over $4/gallon, and they're not ready to ship IRON that consumers are looking to buy; the drop in gasoline prices is balanced by the very daunting employment picture. I imagine that the bailout is supposed to allow the Big 3 to make the transition to a fleet that guzzles less gas and is more appealing to buyers, but that looks like it will take a Herculean effort, and there may not be enough time, money, or clever executives to allow it to happen. -Jerry Wolper [email protected] _______________________________________________ Post Messages to: [email protected] Subscription Maintenance: http://leafe.com/mailman/listinfo/profox OT-free version of this list: http://leafe.com/mailman/listinfo/profoxtech Searchable Archive: http://leafe.com/archives/search/profox This message: http://leafe.com/archives/byMID/profox/[email protected] ** All postings, unless explicitly stated otherwise, are the opinions of the author, and do not constitute legal or medical advice.
