Well, I think the real crux of the argument is not so much global warming
or cooling, but more whether or not mankind is a substantial contributor to
either, and if he is, what should be done about it.

As you said, the world may be in a warming trend. But getting to the true
data has proven difficult. There have been a lot of cases where data was
not recorded correctly or misinterpreted or even manipulated. It's hard to
discuss a subject rationally if even the base data can't be agreed upon.

Personally, I think the Earth is warming in general. Not so much from
"studies" but from other observations in our solar system. We've detected
general global temperature rises of other planets that are fairly
consistent with each other. But since that kind of comparison tends to
debunk the concept of man-made global warming, many of the scientists who
made their fame on man-made global warming don't want to examine it.

A lot of us are frustrated when laws/regulations are passed based on
something whose factual foundation is in question. Generally such
laws/regulations inhibit or constrain or even "put out of business" people
and their industry. That's not really a good thing, especially if there's
not a solid foundational reason for doing so. And as an aside, there are
more and more scientists beginning to speak out against man-made global
warming theory.

So, for some, the subject gets boiled down to "Global warming is false."
And then of course they get jumped on because overall general temperature
graphing trends show some kind of rise in global average temperature. But
what they really mean is, "Man-made global warming theory is not well based
on fact. So putting tight regulations on people and businesses in an
attempt to change global climate is not a smart move, and perhaps a very
foolish one."
