Since we are going to be pedantic I will dispense with 'nobody' and use terms like 'very few people' or 'almost nobody'. It is more accurate and will no doubt suit you, but doesn't really change the comment that 'very few people' hold your opinion. Oh and here is a thought for you to consider...
< b.) Don't have enough balls to risk an unpopular opinion.> What if 'unpopular' is so because it is wrong and/or outstandingly dumb? When reading your posts almost ALL I read is opinions that are at great odds from the conventional view. While I'd be the first to say that conventional views have a lot wrong with them, not all of them are wrong and certainly not all wrong all the time. When you are always the lone voice it is perhaps time to take a self-check on why that is so. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Bob Calco Sent: Tuesday, 17 February 2009 1:14 PM To: 'ProFox Email List' Subject: RE: [OT] Federal Obligations Exceed World GDP > Doesn't change the fact that when you are out on your own like you are, > you > are either A) or B). You have an inordinately difficult time differentiating between a "fact" and an opinion, particularly when the opinion is your own (which is usually couched in terms of "nobody thinks X" and "everybody knows Y", where X is something you disagree with, and Y is something you agree with). You constantly appeal to some mythical unanimity of opinion, which seems always coincidentally to be on your side. No wonder debating anything with you feels rather like striking a wet match, sipping non-alcoholic beer, or binding with non-adhesive tape. As a point of psychology, the number of times you say things like "nobody thinks X" or "everybody knows Y" is very indicative how very little of your own thinking you do. You either: a.) Aren't bright enough to conceive an original idea; or b.) Don't have enough balls to risk an unpopular opinion. OK, in this case there is also: c.) Both A and B I'm guessing you're a sufficiently well-rounded guy to qualify as firmly in the C category. And nothing you can say or quote can ever change that "fact" so don't bother. :-/ - Bob [Intended only as an exercise to illustrate the wisdom of Luke 6:31; what I really wanted in my heart to respond was "Wow, what a thoughtful guy you are, Geoff."
