Microsoft has been very upfront on why this will not happen. The
Intellectual Property is too valuable and has been migrated to their other
products (Access, SQL Server, Visual Studio, and .NET). Microsoft will never
let others have it to use it in part or whole to compete against them.

If you think there is so much value in the product and can compete in the
niche just build a competitor yourself instead of wasting time arguing with
venom. Several others *are* doing something about it. While Ed and I have
disagreed from time-to-time on approach and philosophy I applaud how he has
put his energy into something positive like Dabo. Drudging this up for the
umpteenth time is pointless. Completely pointless.
