Maybe it needs to be a separate, even off-list thread if it is too  
personal, but I'd love to hear your experiences: the pluses and  
minuses of it (ignoring, if possible, the whole relocation thing). I  
remember when I left a job and started this, it was pretty lonely (I  
was also single/childless at the time). Some inappropriately-long  
conversations with clients spring to mind.

Yeah, I got the point. Thank you. I just struggle with this whole  
business these days, and wonder what kind of business model makes  
sense now. I really would like to hear people's impressions of the  
whole "custom design" world. Has it changed as much as it feels like  
to me, or am I relatively-alone in that impression? Your comment just  
opened up the door to expressing these thoughts.
