That's true and it's not my point. Stephen was actually saying, to my utter
shock frankly, that God's OK with whatever religion we choose, they're all
the same basic narrative (except, as he contended also, it's never the same
narrative). He also contended that the prophets of God have been rather
ineffective and God occasionally sprouts new ones to get the momentum back,
or whatever.

My point was, his equivocation is untenable, intellectually and spiritually.
We were well past whether God exists or not in this friendly difference of
opinion. I don't think he or I have any issues on that point, though I
wonder now what kind of God he imagines; seems very different than the one
Jesus talks about.
