I have had no issues with Ubuntu 7.01 or 8.10. I would choose either as my OS of choice. Ubuntu is easy to install - easy to navigate - very intuitive. I booted up Ubuntu for my 85 year old pop that is just learning Windows and he loves it. My mom says it's "pretty."
