Even high tech companies wait till they amortize their old products before presenting new technologies to the market. So we have a right to complain when the rate of change (and the benefits vs. the amount of that change) won't let us take proper advantage of our knowledge and experience. This is particularly noticeable in MS(hit) products. In open source products change is better tied to improvement. Go tell a vi user you will change the keyboard shortcuts for another "better" layout, tell him all his hard won knowledge will go down the drain in order to "improve" some little things.
