That report is bang on the button, i.e. close but no banana and you are
correct with regards to "roll you own" code that is mostly present in
Crystal. In terms of "extensibility" (I hate that word!) it is easy to write
addons for, but you shouldn't need to in the first place for many of the
standard functions that aren't present.

I have used it on one site, reporting on a combination of SQL Server and
VFP data. It's an OK tool but there are some things in it that should be
easy to do which in fact require a very convoluted approach. It's
definitely not in Crystal territory. This site sums up some limitations:

You could even end up have to write extensions in a .NET language to
achieve some things, depending on the complexity of the requirement.
