It is SOP for getting a check from a vendor that covers your
"problems" with a product.  Those problems may include medical visits,
or burial service fees.  None the less if you accept the check you
sign away all of your bitching rights.

I use to work for a Law firm that represented those companies.  If you
read John Grisham then you are familiar with the "BAD" firms
representing the corporate world.  I worked for the firm he poked in
his early books.   I think that he lives about 30 miles from
Memphis????
