Sorry to be late to this, jetlag! Bloomin heck...something I can make a contribution on... One of my companies in the UK sells barcode printers and manufactures Labels (www.eurohill.com)!
If you are looking for long life then thermal transfer is your friend here, thermal direct will still have problems over time with fading and character fade. Run a coin over some thermal direct paper or even wet it.. 13 inch no problem as you'll be leading on the narrow edge. Are you going to base your label length on measurements of having the sensor pick up a black line on the back of the label or alternatively see through the gap... the black line is the most reliable. Printer wise, both those will do what you want, yes I'd rather you bought a Toshiba TEC as that's what we are VARs for. Ribbon wise you're looking for something like an Armor Grade 2 which is good scratch resistant. If you're going to sell them ribbons stay quiet, if not check that they have a "ribbon save" function so that you don't use 13" of ribbon if you're only printing say 5" worth on the actual label. Any other questions Stephen, get in touch, I'm in the UK now until Monday evening.... I have to put a 13 inch label on a legal envelope from a java system. I am looking at paper labels and resin media. I need the image to stick to the label !!! this is going to be used in a court environment by the keeper of the records. Any ideas on other machines?
