The doctrine of "transubstantiation" is one of many in Catechism that are
simply not tenable in Scripture (the eternal virginity of Mary being the
other, directly refuted in the gospels), and causes non-believers to stumble
big time.

The idea that you're only in the presence of the Lord when you eat a piece
of his actual flesh transformed by a ritual of some priest from a piece of
bread is utterly foreign to what Jesus says, and to the tradition from which
the symbolism he employed taught. He says nothing more than "Do this in
memory of me" -- this being a very symbolic breaking of bread and drinking
of wine in memory of his sacrifice, which has deep and profound symbolic
roots in the Tanach, related mainly to the Passover.

On the other hand, I give Catholicism credit for using real wine, at least,
and encouraging frequent fellowship around the Lord's supper. My Baptist
friends still insist he used Welsh's Grape Juice and crackers and don't do
it enough IMHO... in Acts it talks about them doing it all the time. In my
church if we do it once a quarter it's a lot. So much for sola scriptura...
;)

As to the original post about sex and sexuality.. there is no question Satan
has cleverly used a Spirit of Religiosity in the Church during and since the
Dark Ages (which were a kind of heyday for him, not unlike the period we'll
be entering soon, and are already in) to invent twisted doctrines about
godly sex and sexuality (among other things), from which modernity suffers,
both from the doctrines themselves and the counter-reactions to them, which
are just as twisted and perverted. All this of course and as usual IMHO. :)
