The investigation also found evidence that D.C. schools chief Michelle
Rhee handled “damage control” after allegations surfaced of sexual
misconduct against Johnson, her now-fiancé.

The probe was launched after an AmeriCorps inspector general, Gerald
Walpin, was abruptly fired in June by White House lawyer Norm Eisen.
Walpin, who was appointed to his position during the Bush
administration, was pursuing allegations that Johnson misused some of
the $800,000 in federal AmeriCorps money provided to St. Hope Academy,
a nonprofit school he headed for several years.

Among the accusations: AmeriCorps-paid volunteers ran personal errands
for Johnson, washed his car and engaged in political activities.

Walpin’s firing caused an uproar, with his defenders arguing that his
removal was politically motivated and that Walpin was an effective
watchdog who blew the whistle on the president’s friends and pet
causes.

Is it possible? Can we actually increase the amount of cronyism,
corruption and blatant conflicts of interest in DC?

Why, Yes We Can!

- Publius

"It ought never to be forgotten, that a firm union of this country,
under an efficient government, will probably be an increasing object
of jealousy to more than one nation of Europe; and that enterprises to
subvert it will sometimes originate in the intrigues of foreign
powers, and will seldom fail to be patronized and abetted by some of
them. Its preservation, therefore ought in no case that can be
avoided, to be committed to the guardianship of any but those whose
situation will uniformly beget an immediate interest in the faithful
and vigilant performance of the trust." [Federalist Papers #59]
