I liked the movie, "Knowing"; because, I learned something from it. On the other hand, I was very disappointed in the movie "Paranormal Activity" from which I learned nothing new. This made "Paranormal Activity" boring. What is going on today because of "Global Warming", "Climate Change", or "Ozone Layer depletion", or any other label you chose to use, is unprecedented. There is nothing historical upon which to base conclusions regarding what happens when the Ozone Layer thins, develops holes, or is completely destroyed. If we continue to destroy the Ozone Layer, it could lead to the destruction of the plankton that make up the ocean and fresh water reefs of the world. The plankton is at the lower end of the food chain. Never-the-less it is important as a source of food for many fish and animals in the food chain just above it. If the plankton is destroyed, due to an increased level of UV radiation from the Sun, it would be the death knell to many creates that are dependent on it. This could cause a chain reaction disrupting the delicate balance in the food chain, which would quickly spread reaching humans, who are at the top of the chain. IF solar UV radiation increased because of loss in the Ozone Layer, it could trigger problems in humans obtaining enough vitamin D, (eg D3), leading many to suffer from severe Vitamin D deficiency, for example. Currently, an important source of vitamin D for humans is obtained in a chemical reaction, when the Sun's UV rays hit the skin. What changes might occur in the creation of vitamin D within the body, if the Ozone Layer continued depletion? This is just an example of an unexpected result because of human interference with the earth's delicate Eco systems. There could be all kinds of other unexpected results, of which we know nothing, from the comtinued depletion of the Earth's Ozone Layer, because, the Ozone Layer has never before in the course of our evolution been seriously affected by human influences. Other problems we know are occurring because of the thinning of the Ozone Layer are pollution from the Ozone that is being created at ground level, such as smog and soot. The Ozone created high in Earth atomsphere is good, but the Ozone create at Earth gound level is bad. The depletion of the Ozone Layer might explain why the occurrence of asthma is increasing each new generation, for example. I think the depletion of the Ozone Layer is a danger to earth; although, nobody can knows for sure all the dangers that would be created, if we lost the protective shield of the Ozone Layer. The Ozone Layer has been around million of years as our planet and her Eco system evolved into what it is today, and there is no song, poem, or written history to warn us what might occur, if the Ozone Layer were lost, as the Ozone Layer has always been. I know one of the major problems of putting a man on Mars, for example, is UV radiation from the Sun. Before any serious space travel can be undertaken, some kind of shield must be developed to protect astronauts, and their spaceship, from the Sun's UV radiation. Without a healthy Ozone Layer, all life on earth would be facing the same kind of problems astronauts face when in space without any shielding. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1326386/ Regards, LelandJ _______________________________________________ Post Messages to: [email protected] Subscription Maintenance: http://leafe.com/mailman/listinfo/profox OT-free version of this list: http://leafe.com/mailman/listinfo/profoxtech Searchable Archive: http://leafe.com/archives/search/profox This message: http://leafe.com/archives/byMID/profox/[email protected] ** All postings, unless explicitly stated otherwise, are the opinions of the author, and do not constitute legal or medical advice.
