The advances in science over the last 25 years is a major
reason why weather forecast have improved over the past 25
or so years.

Today we have a better understanding of the physics that
govern our planet, thanks to projects like Cavity Probe B.
Technological advances in computers, rocket that launch
weather satellites around earth, and the technology put into
the space station have all played a part in providing the
framework in which we can better predict the weather.
Statistic are uses to express probabilities within observed
weather patterns. I think we will be able to control the
weather in the future, if we aren't there already.

All of the above is science in one form or another.
Although the use of science to solve problems, or just to
discover the unknown, comes at a cost, the money spent is
necessary to the advancement of civilization, so its well
worth it, because of the benefits received.

As Jean noted, science was used to identify a serious
problem from depletion of our Ozone Layer, to study its
causes and effects, and to implement a solution. I think we
should follow a similar approach in dealing with global
warming and weather change. Denial of the problem is not an
option.
