I can't believe you are using Social Security to justify this boondoggle. It's actually one of the best arguments AGAINST this ill-conceived bill. > The politicians have long ago removed all > assets from that system so it is now pay-as-you-go based on F.I.C.A. taxes > by the working person. Social Security was never intended to work like the Ponzi scheme it's become. I posted an article yesterday about the day of doom for that farce of a government-run "solution" approaching much more quickly than anyone anticipates. Indeed, it was never supposed to become an eternal entitlement, either, for that matter. > > Also in the old days before all these security programs were created, the > young in the family took care of the aged directly. Moreover, they were able to do it without trashing our civil liberties or enslaving future generations of Americans with crushing debt that could never possibly be repaid. I strongly believe the young have an obligation to take care of the old. Indeed, I just took in my wife's mother, who is not even qualified for medicare/medicaid. But I oppose with every fiber of my being the federal government taking over 1/6th of the economy on the pretense of performing my duty for me. - Publius -- "It ought never to be forgotten, that a firm union of this country, under an efficient government, will probably be an increasing object of jealousy to more than one nation of Europe; and that enterprises to subvert it will sometimes originate in the intrigues of foreign powers, and will seldom fail to be patronized and abetted by some of them. Its preservation, therefore ought in no case that can be avoided, to be committed to the guardianship of any but those whose situation will uniformly beget an immediate interest in the faithful and vigilant performance of the trust."
