President Barack Obama has both detractors and fans. A curious number
of his fans are named Ellie Light.

...

University of Missouri journalism professor Tom Rosenstiel, co-author
of a textbook on journalistic values titled “The Elements of
Journalism,” reacted with surprise and wonderment upon learning of
Light’s widespread publication under multiple addresses.

He said newspapers might be able to avoid similar situations in the
future by requesting street addresses and home telephone numbers from
would-be correspondents, and verifying that those addresses and phone
numbers exist.

"Just because it is inconvenient for us in the news business to find
out who people are doesn’t mean it isn’t important anymore,”
Rosenstiel said. “It is not OK for people to have multiple identities.
This is something that people in the news business and in the business
of printing “letters to the editor” need to be aware of.”

If we had real journalists writing newspaper stories these days,
they'd be wondering in how many diverse places ACORN managed to get
Ellie registered to vote.

Given the grammar, tone and diction of the letters, which appear to be
around 8th grade reading level, I'd almost be willing to be money that
Ellie's real name is Barack.

"It ought never to be forgotten, that a firm union of this country,
under an efficient government, will probably be an increasing object
of jealousy to more than one nation of Europe; and that enterprises to
subvert it will sometimes originate in the intrigues of foreign
powers, and will seldom fail to be patronized and abetted by some of
them. Its preservation, therefore ought in no case that can be
avoided, to be committed to the guardianship of any but those whose
situation will uniformly beget an immediate interest in the faithful
and vigilant performance of the trust." [Federalist Papers #59]
