How “unexpected” could this possibly be? In the last four weeks.
we’ve learned that:

US “unexpectedly” lost 85,000 jobs in December
Overall home sales “unexpectedly” dropped 16% in November
Foreclosures rose “unexpectedly”
New housing starts fell “unexpectedly” in December
Builder sentiment “unexpectedly” fell this month
Home resales “unexpectedly” plunged in December faster than ever before

Honestly, considering all of these other indicators, a rise in
new-home sales would have been flabbergasting. People aren’t buying
because earlier stimulus incentives expired and sped up buying
decisions that would have been otherwise made this year. More people
are unemployed, which means they can’t afford to buy anything and
can’t qualify for mortgages. They’re not buying new homes when people
are desperate to unload resales and foreclosures.

Too funny. What a sham, our so-called "free press."

"It ought never to be forgotten, that a firm union of this country,
under an efficient government, will probably be an increasing object
of jealousy to more than one nation of Europe; and that enterprises to
subvert it will sometimes originate in the intrigues of foreign
powers, and will seldom fail to be patronized and abetted by some of
them. Its preservation, therefore ought in no case that can be
avoided, to be committed to the guardianship of any but those whose
situation will uniformly beget an immediate interest in the faithful
and vigilant performance of the trust." [Federalist Papers #59]
