When they become dependent on code generators and their dependency on them,
that is the end of innovation and the beginning of the end of what made them
a success to start with.

Just a guess but the changes that the Tablet version needed to be an awesome
new type of software the manager of Office was not able to commit to. I
have no inside info on any of this but I see decisions like this all the
time as I am sure all of you do as well.

Could it have been a 30% code base to tweak and manager could not justify
the time, $$, testing, etc.

I know that I see a lot of great ideas hit the floor on account of those
issues.

Now in hind site we can all say he should have gone for it but "We"
know better don't we ;->

Currently in a situation in laying out design of iPhone / Droid usage of
some of our apps and the fighting gets intense. Still have the mindset of
using 90% of our existing code and only changing a little to make this roll,
but our step 1 position is great for desktops and sucky for compact device.

Granted I am talking about design and required elements and they are talking
about code generators and tweaking them.
