Hi Dr. Charles,

You may be stuck with this behavior. We have an older model and we went
through hell trying to get it to print without a filled color cartridge.
Finally discovered that the operator was pressing the "print" button
which called for a color copy. It was not obvious what to do when you
wanted black only. There is "another" print button for black only.

We went round and round with HP, always the answer was you have to have
color ink with this model. We still jump through hoops to get black
copies. We use an Epson laser for printing, although the HP might print
from a computer if we ever tried it.

HP likes to have a "jet" siphon into your bank account. In bed with M$.
