Sure had me going at first! Who knows, maybe I will receive some convincing
doc, but I'm doubting it.

- The title of the ad reads: "{2002 Jeep Wrangler Sahara Coupe} - $3000
(Chelsea)". Chelsea is an area of downtown NYC, and in craigslist parlance,
this wording is as if to say "the car is in Chelsea".

- it struck me as odd that he didn't put the extra "pitch" into the ad
itself, since they are important (mileage) and the part about shipping. I'd
think others would also give him 'extra credit' for being on his way to
Iraq.

- it would have been easy for him to just call me (I gave him my #) or give
me his #, and it would be easy to scan some document, such as a title or
registration - something to prove he and the car are real.

- he identifies himself as a Captain in the military. Captain is a pretty
high rank, and his notes just didn't smack of someone at that level.

- it seems to me this was headed towards having me transfer money somewhere,
leaving me with nothing but emails to point to if anything goes wrong. I am
curious about the eBay buyer protection program, so I just looked into it.
http://pages.ebay.com/help/buy/protection-programs.html One glaring thing is
covered transactions have to happen through eBay. I just looked and can't
find his ad there, and he didn't send me a link to it (I replied to a
craigslist ad).

I'm thinking this is guy is an amature, some guy in his basement putting
together his own little scam operation. A sophisticated operator would have
thought through the identification part, even had some slick talker ready to
get on the phone. Perhaps lucky for me! Caveat Emptor, and all that!
