        Really? Continents have no basis in geology? Plate tectonics either?

        Well, until it becomes commonplace, it is indeed pedantic to insist 
that your uncommon usage is the correct one.

        I'm sure that there are quite a few assholes in your country, as well 
as every other country on the planet.

        Now we are getting to the heart: it has nothing to do with accuracy; it 
has to do with your political viewpoint. It would be much more refreshing to 
not hide behind linguistic arguments and simply stick to political arguments. 
Remember two things:

1) Not everyone in the US who uses the term 'American' sees the country as the 
center of the universe.

2) Getting those in the US who do see this country as "the best" (whatever that 
means) to stop saying 'America' when referring to just the USA will not change 
their POV one iota. They will continue with the jingoistic rants no matter what.
