        Three points: first, I never ran for nationwide office and used that 
campaign to advance any particular policy. When I do decide to run for such an 
important office, I will be more than happy to explain my energy policies to 
you.

        Second, energy independence is a complex issue whose solutions don't 
fit on a bumper sticker. They don't even fit in an email. Demanding such 
simplistic answers, and proposing such simplistic consequences to not drilling, 
demonstrates a fundamental unawareness of the problem.

        Third, basic math shows that the current growth in the rate of fuel 
consumption to be the problem, not the lack of drilling. If the known offshore 
reserves were fully tapped and actually produced double the expected amounts, 
it would at best prolong the inevitable by a year or two. So in a perfect world 
where offshore drilling is safe and cheap and clean, you aren't doing anything 
except ignoring the actual problem.
