I think that for what it was designed to do (manage one typical person's music library on one computer) it does the job well. It never crashes, it's never corrupted my files, it performs well, and is fairly customizable and scriptable. Managing iPhone songs, photos, videos, address book, appointments, etc. is the same: for one computer login:iphone combination, it works well. Feels grafted-on to use iTunes to sync all the data, not just music, but I understand why they did it that way (simplicity for the typical user). It does start to break down if the library moves around, there are multiple libraries, or more than one iPhone/iPod sync up to the same computer with the same account. It is also kind of stupid IMO to save the metadata in XML - should be some highly optimized database for performance, and the user can export/import to/from XML. But I think iTunes and the rest of the Apple suite of software does satisfy 80% of the users, so I stand by my position that it is fine software for its intended use. As far as the GUI being awful, I do agree that it looks out of place on Windows. But I like Apple's GUI better than Microsoft's, and it is the only app I use on this one Windows box of mine (should probably wipe and install Linux but I'm lazy) so I'm glad it looks and feels almost identical Windows versus Mac. In other words, the awfulness of a given GUI is subjective. :) Paul _______________________________________________ Post Messages to: [email protected] Subscription Maintenance: http://leafe.com/mailman/listinfo/profox OT-free version of this list: http://leafe.com/mailman/listinfo/profoxtech Searchable Archive: http://leafe.com/archives/search/profox This message: http://leafe.com/archives/byMID/profox/[email protected] ** All postings, unless explicitly stated otherwise, are the opinions of the author, and do not constitute legal or medical advice.
