Stephen, You can't blame VFP for that, but you CAN blame the people who wrote and developed it. I guess the same people would make equally stupid design decisions whatever they were programming in.
The DBC itself doesn't require drive mappings and will operate on unc paths with no problem. If you want to point the program to a different path or location at runtime then the Data Environment allows you to change where the tables are opened from before they are opened, simples. I only ever looked at SBT once when I was considering taking a dealership in it and converting it into UK format and the design frightened me silly. It was just plain bad, not lacking....just BAD. Don't shot the messenger or the product, shoot the developers. They have SBT / AccPac and getting the data to the shipper as well as writing the transactions for each label produced has been a nightmare. I can honestly say that the DBC is hell. Attaching a table to it is a poor idea. The worst lesson learned is that the drive letter location for that dbc is crucial. WTF ? How dare you bind in a drive letter to a location? How do I move stuff around as my network grows and changes over time? This system used E:\ to map the folder from the server. Because it was a FedEx box it was not given newer hardware, DVD writer. All other PCs in location got the DVD in 2008 when they were replaced. Drive E: maps on these machines to said DVD. I made a new mapping for same folder to G: and had nothing but misery. I could get one of the companies systems to work but the other would not. As of last night I tossed out the UPS system and kept FedEx working to get 2 days of shpments out the door. That is Fri and Mondays packages are still on the belts, have not moved and not been invoiced. >From all honesty I can now say why data managers say get Foxpro out of here. It behaves poorly with others. Flexibility is only via the programmer and not the system admin. Why didn't ctod() not convert year, month, day data properly? all I got was / / ???? Foxpro it is like drinking OJ from a lead glazed pitcher every morning. Sir that is going to kill you. Yes doc but I like the way it looks. -- Stephen Russell Sr. Production Systems Programmer CIMSgts 901.246-0159 cell [excessive quoting removed by server] _______________________________________________ Post Messages to: [email protected] Subscription Maintenance: http://leafe.com/mailman/listinfo/profox OT-free version of this list: http://leafe.com/mailman/listinfo/profoxtech Searchable Archive: http://leafe.com/archives/search/profox This message: http://leafe.com/archives/byMID/profox/[email protected] ** All postings, unless explicitly stated otherwise, are the opinions of the author, and do not constitute legal or medical advice.
