i)
Read Ed again, he said "If it is difficult for them to use a program", 
that may include un-intentional misuse but he says nothing about 
intentional misuse.
In the case at hand of installing/using antivirus apps he has a point, 
antivirus apps have no reason whatsoever to be difficult to install, 
set-up or use.

ii)
Following your line of reasoning we could justify dictatorships because 
in a ship you have an all powerful captain.
In IT phishing, eCards and free porn are not distractions. The first two 
have nothing to do with a distraction, they cheat people, not distract them.
As for free porn pages getting into your machine, they could do the same 
with religious pages, it's just that religion does not have an 
interesting audience (I'm speaking of numbers here, not the subject of 
the page).
